چکیده

Both animals and humans use meta-rules in their daily life, in order to adapt their behavioral strategies on changing environmental situations. Typically, the term meta-rule encompasses those rules that are applied to rules themselves. In cognitive science, conventional approaches for designing meta-rules follow human hard-wired architectures. In contrast to previous approaches, the current work employs evolutionary processes to explore neuronal mechanisms accounting for meta-level rule switching. In particular, we performed a series of experiments with a simulated robot that has to learn to switch between different behavioral rules in order to accomplish given tasks. Continuous time recurrent neural networks (CTRNN) controllers with either a fully connected or a bottleneck architecture were examined. The obtained results showed that different rules are represented by separate selforganized attractors, while rule switching is enabled by the transitions among attractors. Furthermore, the results showed that neural network division into a lower sensory-motor Adaptive Behavior, Vol.17, No.1, pp.58-80, 2009.

Dynamical Systems Account for Meta-level Cognition

The current paper studies possible neuronal mechanisms for meta-level cognition of rule switching. In contrast to the conventional approach of hand-designing the cognitive functions, our study employs evolutional processes to search for neuronal mechanisms accounting for meta-level cognitive functions required in the investigated robotic tasks. Our repeated simulation experiments showed that th...

Neuro-Fuzzy Nonlinear Dynamical System Approximations using High Order Neural Networks

A new definition of Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Systems is presented in this paper for the identification of unknown nonlinear dynamical systems. The proposed scheme uses the concept of Adaptive Fuzzy Systems (AFS) operating in conjunction with High Order Neural Network Functions (F-HONNFs). Since the plant is considered unknown, we first propose its approximation by a special form of an adaptive fuzz...

Analog cellular networks for locomotion control in biorobots

To meet the challenge of conceiving, designing, and building neuro-inspired machines, we must delve deeply into several different disciplines. These include neuroscience, artificial intelligence, biorobotics, dynamical systems theory, and electronics. In particular, machines intended to move should be built according to biological rules, taking account of real implementation issues. The design ...

A complex-valued neuro-fuzzy inference system and its learning mechanism

In this paper, we present a Complex-valued Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (CNFIS) and develop its meta-cognitive learning algorithm. CNFIS has four layersan input layer with m rules, a Gaussian layer with K rules, a normalization layer with K rules and an output layer with n rules. The rules in the Gaussian layer map the m-dimensional complex-valued input features to a K-dimensional real-valued s...
